Storage & Care
As we have explained, all crystals have different physical wants and needs and many can be fragile, sensitive to light, heat or humidity, so it is important to know how to store them to keep them beautiful- and effective- for many years to come! By and large a crystals physical properties will let you know how to store them properly, but that doesn't mean you can't have some fun with it! Below are some of the most important tips for correctly storing your crystals.

General Care & Storage
Storing crystals in a way which is safe for them and you is relatively easy, providing you make a note of a few factors. The chief factors that matter are a crystals sensitivity to water, both in the air and as a liquid, to heat and light and to knocks, scratches and breakages. Other factors include if they are affected by acids (like the small amount in rainwater) or salt--water and whether or not they contain toxins and need extra care to be taken. For more information about each crystals needs, please see our lists below, our page on the Moh's Hardness Scale and our Cleaning guide.
Light & Heat Sensitive Crystals
Light/Heat Sensitive Crystals: These should be stored out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources/places where temperatures change dramatically to prevent adverse effects like fading and cracking.
Amber, Amethyst, Ametrine, Aquamarine, Aventurine, Carnelian, Celestite, Chryoprase, Citrine, Coloured Agates, Cuprite, Danburite, Fluorite, Hiddenite, Howlite, Jade, Kunzite, Larimar, Opal, Rhodonite, Rose/Smoky/Spirit Quartz, Sapphires. This is not a complete list so please research for yourself before storing a crystal on a windowsill or near a radiator.
Humidity Sensitive Crystals
These should be stored in dry places, away from kitchens and bathrooms, or in some cases inside a box to prevent moisture in the air from causing damage, for more information see our cleaning guide and again please research the correct storage for your particular crystals.
Angelite, Calcite, Halite, Labradorite, Lepidolite, Malachite, Mica, Moldavite, Obsidian, Opal, Selenite, Turqouise, Ulexite. This is not a complete list so please, research your crystals before exposing them to water.
